Call for Workshops

ACM SIGSPATIAL 2026 Call for Proposals - Workshops

The ACM SIGSPATIAL International Conference on Advances in Geographic Information Systems (ACM SIGSPATIAL) traditionally holds a day of co-located workshops on the first day of the conference. ACM SIGSPATIAL 2026 continues this tradition, and this year, SIGSPATIAL workshops will be held on November 3rd, 2026. The workshops have proven to be vibrant events, providing a focused forum for exchanging ideas and experiences, and they attract a significant majority of the conference attendees. Workshop proceedings are published in the ACM Digital Library.

In this call, we invite submissions of workshop proposals. The proposals should be submitted as PDF attachments (no more than 3 pages), via an email sent to the workshop chairs by May 1st, 2026.

General Guidelines

The expected duration of a workshop is a single half-day or a single full day, and all the accepted workshops will take place on November 3rd, 2026, at the venue of the main conference. Each workshop is expected to focus on a particular aspect of the field, with emphasis on emerging sub-areas of the field and topics that bridge the SIGSPATIAL community with other communities.

Workshops can take different forms, including:

Workshops may include presentations of research papers, short papers, vision papers, demo papers, invited talks, panel discussions, tutorials, hands-on sessions, poster sessions, and similar research-related activities.

Registration for workshops will be combined with the registration for the main conference. The SIGSPATIAL chairs will set the registration fees for the conference – these fees are equal for all the workshops and are set at a minimum level, to cover costs of room rental, refreshments, and AV. No complimentary registration is provided to workshop organizers, keynote speakers, or any other person affiliated with the workshops. If workshop organizers wish to have invited speakers, any additional financial support must come from funds that are raised by the workshop organizers. Workshops are encouraged to recognize their best papers or presentations with awards, which will be announced at the conference banquet.

When composing the Call for Papers, workshop organizers should explicitly mention that at least one author per accepted workshop contribution (paper, poster, demo) is required to register for the conference (and the workshop) and attend the workshop to present the accepted work. Otherwise, the accepted submission will not appear in the ACM Digital Library version of the workshop proceedings. Note that, as in previous years, the conference will provide invitation letters if they are required for visa applications.

Since SIGSPATIAL is an ACM conference and must comply with ACM Open, publications in the workshop proceedings may require authors to pay Article Processing Charges (APCs) depending on the format, as specified by ACM in https://authors.acm.org/open-access/acm-open-for-authors-home. For more information on ACM Open, APCs and Discounts, please see the guidelines in the web page of the main conference: https://sigspatial2026.sigspatial.org/research-submission.html. Please consider these requirements when planning your submission formats and Call for Contributions.

We encourage organizers to strive for broad participation in the organizing committee and to foster a welcoming and professional event environment. Organizers are encouraged to consider a wide range of perspectives, expertise, and experiences in support of open participation and excellence. For questions regarding these goals, please contact BPC chairs of SIGSPATIAL 2026. For more information, please see https://spatialdei.github.io/.

Workshop Proposal Details

The workshop proposal should include the following details:

Evaluation and Organization

The acceptance/rejection decisions will be made by the Workshop Chairs in consultation with the SIGSPATIAL 2026 Executive Committee and the General Chairs, considering the capacity of the venue and relevance of the topic to SIGSPATIAL 2026. Evaluation criteria include the overall quality of the proposal and the fit of the area to ACM SIGSPATIAL 2026. Notifications are expected to be sent within two weeks after the submission deadline, and no later than June 1, 2026.

Organizers of accepted workshops will be responsible for the review process of their workshop. They will be responsible for creating the workshop website and for the publicity of their workshop. Workshops may need to adhere to a general timetable, to facilitate catering. Workshop organizers should share with the Workshop Chairs statistics regarding the numbers of submissions and of accepted papers, as soon as these numbers become available. According to the number of submissions, the workshop may be reduced to a half-day format. All the organizers of accepted workshops must register for the workshop. At least two members of the workshop’s organizing committee must attend the workshop in person and manage the workshop; otherwise, the workshop will be canceled.
